1. What is the different between the web based application and the ROES desktop application?

1. What is the different between the web based application and the ROES desktop application?

The primary different between the web based application and the ROES desktop application is the Advance ROES Download Application allows you to work offline and provides different editing tools compared to the online version. The desktop software has a more user-friendly interface and is ideal for quick photo print ordering, PE Photo allows you flexibility to order your photo prints depending preferences.

2. Are these necessary downloads from the web based application and the ROES desktop application?

Only the ROES Advanced Download Application requires to be downloaded and installed on your hard drive.

3. Can I cancel my orders after upload in these two options? What is the cancellation policy for each option?

You must contact us immediately at roes@pephoto.com and inform us of any immediate cancellations. Any orders received after 1 hours from order placement is subject to our discretion and cancellation fees. Also to note, the cancellation msut be before processing- mean not printed yet.

4. Are there additional requirements (third party softwares) necessary for the web based application and the ROES desktop application?

Java SE Runtime which can be downloaded from www.java.com is needed to run both the desktop software and the web based deluxe uploader.

5. Are there any differences in the quality, quantity, prices and templates of my prints between these two softwares?

The print quality is the same for both softwares, however both applications have their own unique set of templates of greeting cards, layouts and collages. The shipping fees of the web based application is calculated based on the price. The desktop application is calculated on a points system.

6. Are both ROES desktop and Lifepics web based applications compatible with MAC?

Yes, both softwares are compatible with the MAC and PC. ROES desktop application can also run on Unix.

7. What browsers and settings work best for the two softwares?

The ROES Advanced Download Application does not require a browser to run. Our site and software are designed for optimal use at screen resolution 1024x768 and best viewed in Internet Explorer 7.0, Firefox 2.0 and above on PC, or Safari 2.0.04 and above on Mac.

8. Are there any registration requirement for either of two softwares?

The web based application is required registration and log in to order.

9. Can I combine two different orders between the two softwares?

Not at this moment.

10. What are the system requirements to run the ROES desktop application?

You should have a minimum of 500MHz speed processor with 256MB RAM and the latest Java Runtime loaded from SUN. Any java capable system can be used, so Apple OS X10.3 or higher, Linux, and all current version of Windows will support the application. Be sure to maintain enough free drive space to build, save, and retain order files.

11. ROES is giving an "Invalid Argument" error upon startup, but I have run it before. How do I get past this?

This is a corruption of the launch file downloaded when the client starts. Clean out your Internet Explorer cache /Temporary Internet Files as below and re-start the client launch. On PC, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > click Settings under General > click Delete Files, then OK.

12. Can I re-create a ROES desktop shortcut if I skipped the option during the initial launch?

If you skipped the shortcut install, you can create the shortcut from within Java Web Start's Application Cache Viewer. To get there on PC, click Start > Run and type javaws.exe or javaws -viewer in Java 1.6 and press Enter. Find the ROES application you want the shortcut for and right-click on it. Select Install  Shortcuts and they will be created. If using an older Java 1.4 version, right clicking will not get a response (you may also need to click View and select Downloaded Applications to see the right list). Instead, select the ROES application you want, click Application in the menu bar and select Create Shortcuts. To remove a shortcut, follow the same steps and select Uninstalled /Remove Shortcuts.

13. What characters cannot be used in images file names?

While you can filter most out in the ROES client, it is still best to not use apostrophes, commas, slashes, ampersands and any foreign languages in image file names.

14. What does the message, "Some information is incomplete" mean when I try to send an order?

If you have not completed the "My Information" section before placing the order, you will receive the "some information is missing" message. Please view all of your information in "My information" before placing any orders through.

15. What kind of format do you accept and what resolution should my images be?

We accept JPG, JPEG, TIF and TIFF file formats in sRGB or up color space with a recommended DPI of 300. Higher resolution images will result in higher quality print outs. However, please limit the image size to 20MB each as it might casue uploading error. When naming your images, please avoid using special characters excluding hyphen (-) and underscore (_).

16. Can I use the ROES application offline?

Yes, however, you have to connect to the Internet in order to place your ROES order.

17. For the wallet sizes, passports or collages, Can I place an order of just one or two images only?

Yes. By holding down the "Alt" (PC) or “Option" (Mac), you can add orders to the shopping cart with empty fields.

18. Is that a limitation of how many images I can order?

We can take up to about 2,000 of 2MB images at one order. Under Step 2- Choose Your Images, select all images, then "drag and drop" to the Step 3- Crop Your Images for quick order. However, for each "drag and drop", we don't recommend you select more than 500 of 2MB images. If you would like to order more than 2,000 images, please order them in two separate orders.

19. Are transactions safe on the desktop software?

We use thawte Code Signing Certificates to assure the integrity of the software. All credit card transactions are sent encrypted via 128 bit SSL secured communication.
